Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation severs ties to Planned Parenthood over politics

Planned Parenthood provides essential medical services to men and women across the country. So why is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation breaking ties with them? It’s either weakness, as suggested publicly by Planned Parenthood themselves, or just political timing by an organization founded by a major Republican donor (the link is just a sample of what we’re talking about). John Aravosis of AMERICAblog notes the strong connection between GOP gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel and the Foundation, just one of many Republican connections. We won’t ever know for sure, as intent in these cases is hard to gauge, but whatever the reason, this plainly wrong choice is just another example of how the modern Republican Party is tearing the country apart in a way that plainly hurts Americans.

To be a little glib and a lot simplistic, political theater just doesn’t matter. How about we fight cancer and do good works without worrying about “optics?” How about that?
