Novelist Jim C. Hines, of “The Stepsister Scheme” and other princess novels. Mr. Hines, to his immense credit, tries to mimic the cover art poses of his books and finds that they involve some amount of pain.

One of the giant, audacious goals I have is to help drive a new conversation about beauty. There’s a lot of steps that we have to take in that long journey, but one of them has to be about redefining “sexy” as something that humans are. If looking sexy has to involve pain or flat-out unrealistic poses, clothes, etc., then it’s time to really interrogate what we find sexy (via Sara Langhinrichs).
